FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF FACULTY

The faculty of Mathematics, being by one of oldest divisions of our high school, has grown from physical and mathematical branch of the Nizhniy Novgorod teacher's institute transformed in 1917 in the faculty of Physics- Mathematics. Since 1967 the mathematical faculty began the independent existence. During ninety years the faculty has prepared more than 4000 teachers of mathematics. Its graduates worked and the areas and other regions of Russia work at schools of city. Among them there are Heroes of socialist work, exellenters educations deserved of the teacher, honourable workers of maximum vocational training, doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, candidates of physical and mathematical and pedagogical sciences.

In different years the faculty was headed by its best representatives, known scientific and highly skilled experts: I.R. Brajcev, N.A Frolov, V.V. Repev, V.L. Konkov, G.P. Sennikov.

Since October, 1968 more than 20 years supervised over faculty the senior lecturer of faculty of geometry Valeriya Vasilevna Smirnova. Since 1989 for 1996 the dean of mathematical faculty was the senior lecturer of faculty of a technique of teaching of mathematics Jury Borisovich Velikanov

Since October, 1996 on a post of the dean it is elected the senior lecturer of faculty of the theory and a technique of training to mathematics Elena Nikolaevna Perevoshikova.

FACULTY TODAY

Since 2001 into structure of faculty enter 3 chairs:
Chair Algebras and geometry (head- doctor of philosophical sciences, professor, rector NSPU V.A.Gluzdov);
Chair of the mathematical analysis;
Chair of the theory and technique of training to mathematics (head- doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor T.A.Ivanovа);

Now at faculty two doctors of physical and mathematical sciences, professors as R.A.Shafiev, A.M.Sebeldin, the Doctor of Philosophy, the professor V.A.Gluzdov, two doctors of pedagogical sciences, professors T.A.Ivanova, E.N.Perevoshikova, the soros senior lecturer M.I.Malkin, 13 senior lecturers, candidates of physical and mathematical and pedagogical sciences work.

SPECIALITIES

In connection with transition of university to multilevel system of education the students of faculty have had an opportunity alongside with the basic speciality "Mathematics" to choose additional specialities: "Computer science" and "Teacher- psychologist". In 2000г. the first group of the students on a speciality "Computer science with an additional speciality "Economy" is typed.

In 1985 under the application of Department of education and science of the Nizhniy Novgorod area the reception on correspondence branch on a speciality "Mathematics" (25 men) is open, focused basically on the graduates of Gorodec's pedagogical college on a similar speciality In 2001 the faculty opens reception on the first year of correspondence branch on a speciality "Mathematics". Thus faculty grows, expands a spectrum of additional specialities, were guided in preparation of the experts on regional needs for the staff.

STUDENT'S LIFE

The educational and especially outside of - educational lessons are base for realization of creative potential of the students. In organization of student's life in many respects the traditions help: mathematical and methodical Olympiads, Days of a Science, exhibition of scientific student's works, Days of faculty. With student's passion, responsibly prepare for these holidays everything, they pass cheerfully, colourfully, it is fascinating and cognitively. Annually in sports competitions between the students of the first year the team of faculty borrows prize-winning places on volleyball, basketball, desktop tennis, easy athletics.

Students accept active participation and in a general university actions: a holiday "Beginning", Club cheerful and resourceful, festival of student's arts "CANDLE". The first place for participation in it general university festival was awarded to repeatedly mathematical faculty. In 2000 students of faculty have put performance " Dream in a summer night ", for what have been marked by the certificate of honour of university.


Tarasova Elena, student V of a rate as the best director - director of university it has been awarded with trip on festival of teams of Club cheerful and resourceful in city Sochi in 2000.
		Annually the best students of mathematical faculty most advantageously participate in university Olympiads on physics, computer science, a history to world and domestic culture, economy. Teams of students - mathematicians, as a rule, borrow prize-winning places on zone and regional student's Olympiads on mathematics and computer science. Students V.Uvarov, J.Zajtsev, A.Samygin, N.Sinjagina are awarded with letters of the Academic council of university for successes in study and participation in scientific work.

Now the mathematical faculty becomes popular and prestigious faculty. Students and graduates of faculty are claimed by a society, they work in comprehensive schools, in licea, pedgimnazii, in mathematical classes, with success realize themselves in economy, management.

Thus, high qualification professorsko-teaching structure, efficiency of spent scientific and scientifically methodical work and functioning of postgraduate study as way of reproduction of personnel potential testifies that at faculty are created necessary conditions for realization of educational process on a speciality mathematics with an additional speciality and maintenance of qualitative preparation of the mathematics teacher.
