The Foreign students Department of Nizhny Novgorod State Teachers' Training University
Education of international students in Nizhny Novgorod State Teachers' Training University (NNSTTU) started in 1995 and includes preparatory, main and post-graduate courses.
International students can apply for the preparatory department of Nizhny Novgorod State Teachers' Training University from 1-st September to 30-th June.
- The programme of the preparatory department offers international students:
- Russian (language) lessons (36 hours a week in the 1st term and 18 hours a week in the 2nd term);
- lessons in core subjects: chemistry, biology, mathematics, physics, literature, computing, drawing and others.
Professors and teachers of corresponding departments work with international students to prepare them in these subjects.
On completing the course of studies at the preparatory department international students are enlisted to study at any faculty of Nizhny Novgorod State Teachers' Training University or any other higher educational establishment on the chosen speciality.
Forms of training: full-time (day and evening), part - time, exsternat.
Training specialists on the basis of secondary education lasts 4-5 years (excluding the length of students at the preparatory department).

Students train on different specialties both in special groups for international students (3-5 students in a group) and in the groups for russian students, also individually.
Students are enrolled on the basis of direct contracts both with organizations and persons.
Tuition Fees at the preparatory department are 1600 €, at the main course - 1800 €.
The following documents should be enclosed:
- General Certificate of Secondary Education (with notary certified translation into Russian) and other certificates and Diplomas of education).
- Medical certificate, AIDS Certificate, International Certificate of Vaccination in English and Russian (certified by notary).
- Ten photographs 3x4 cm.
- Passport.
- Visa.
The University provides registration, hostel (175 € a year), a room in the hostel (from 500 rubles a day; free medical care if an international student has insurance (3800 rubles), at his own expense, different additional kinds of medical insurance (800-4500 rubles), students' dining room (dinner from 100 rubles), gymnasiums, the library, reading-halls, laboratories, lecture-rooms and class rooms

After completing the main course graduates take Master Course, post - graduate course, doctor's course lasting 2-4 years correspondingly.

- post - graduate course - from 1700 € depending on speciality
- doctor's course - 2000 €
There are 3 dissertation councils (2 have the right to take doctor's dissertations)
On the basis of the foreign department at the NNSTTU courses of Russian are organized (1-6 months, individual and in groups), practical study and taking part in conferences and exchange of experience on the problems of learning. On graduation students get certificates and other documents about qualification improvement.
The Center of testing international citizens in the Russian language is opened. The aim of this Center is to carry out testing within the framework of state system of testing in Russia and testing to receive citizenship. Foreigners can take tests in Russian in accordance with the agreement concluded by Head Centre of testing (Moscow). The Foreign Department at NNSTTU is included into the state system of testing foreigners in Russian.
The Foreign Department at NNSTTU is a member of the society of Russian language and Russian literature teachers in Russia. This society works out the newest educational technologies in the field of supporting Russian language and culture in foreign countries.
NNSTTU has close contacts with the American Council representatives of Russian language and literature teachers and the British Council in Nizhny Novgorod.
