Library of university - one of oldest high school libraries of city . enters into structure NSPU and borrows a conducting place during maintenance by the documents and information of educational work and scientific - pedagogical activity. The activity builds according to tasks and plans NSPU and works in commonwealth with dean's offices, faculties, public organizations. The library formed funds and developed the activity together with university. This year 70 years were executed from the date of organization.

In structure of library 11 departments, including 5 subscriptions, 4 reading halls on 216 landing places, department of acquisition and account of the literature, department of scientific processing of the literature with sector of automation, information and bibliographic department, department of a storage of the books, methodical department, sector of humanitarian and educational work.

The library NSPU concerns to I of a category, the state makes 41, 5 units 36 men work now. Many employees have worked in library from 10 till 30 years and more. Know and love work with the book, work with the readers.

Within one year the library carries out service more than 10 thousand readers , gives out more than 650 thousand copy of the various literature. All students 1- st of a year become the readers of library and remain them before reception of the diploma. The readers are the post-graduate students, teachers, science officers and other employees of university

Cities, many the teacher, employees of pedagogical establishments, pupils of educational institutions, the students of other high schools visit library.

The information support of scientific and educational process is carried out on the basis of fund numbering more of 600 thousand of copies. Fund universal under the contents, various for types and kinds of the literature, chronological frameworks - 18-20 centuries, literature on Russian and foreign languages. Is constantly updated, contains the modern scientific and educational editions on all directions of a psychological and pedagogical science. The special value in the scientific and cultural relation is represented with collections of the rare and valuable books and works of the scientists NSPU. Among the readers of the last years and present time there are a lot of known scientists, which became pride of university and have filled up with the scientific works a Collection of works of university (CWU). Now CWU totals more than 1700 copies. 184 copies are kept in library. The dissertations protected in NSPU.

the Fund of the rare and valuable editions of library totals 6839 copies. The basis of fund is made by the editions XVIII of century, XIX and XX of centuries, in the majority acted from library I-st of a man's grammar school, on the basis of which the library of the Nizhniy Novgorod pedagogical institute was created. The valuable editions send to our funds from the Nizhniy Novgorod Urban public library, and also from libraries of an educational structure, which have joined library of institute, later (library of a area's Department of national education, Society of mutual aid of the teachers etc.), and also private assemblies The inhabitants of N.Novgorod fond books, there are a lot of rare editions has got in ours library from assemblies S.V.Lazarev's, one of progeny of the brothers Lazarevs, of the Nizhniy Novgorod friends T.G.Shevchenko, P.I.Melnikova- Pecherskogo, V.V.Sipovskogo, V.D.Sipovskogo, V.S.Taganceva and etc.

The most rare book of fund - old printed edition "Code", on which court and the punishment in any businesses in the Russian state is made, composed and printed at possession of king and great prince of Alexy Mihajlivich "Synod's Code 1649 "is dated 1737. The large collection of the lifetime editions of the Russian writers. Among them - A.S.Pushkin "Evgeny Onegin"(1836), A.Kantemir "Satire"(1762), A.Blok "Verses about Perfect Lady" (1905), Gomer "Iliada"(1829) in N.Gnedich's translation . In structure of rare fund the collection of the editions on pedagogics is allocated: the books and periodic editions. In fund more than 2500 copies rare of the pedagogical book, the fund of the pre-revolutionary pedagogical periodic editions makes more than 1060 copies, the fund of the local pedagogical periodic editions is submitted 82 copies.
